The police have initiated the legal process and have booked Gudiya Devi under CrPC Section 194/182 for filing a false report and misleading the court

A woman has been booked for falsely accusing her in-laws of murdering her husband in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda as part of her plan to take over the family land.

However, police found the husband to be alive and arrested the couple for their fake murder accusation plan.

Earlier, the accused — Gudiya Devi — had filed a case against her father-in-law Nanke and three brother-in-laws — Arjun, Shyam and Agyaram — for killing her husband, Ramkaran and later disposing off his body, NDTV reported.

Following her complaint, police registered a case under Section 156(3) of the Criminal Code of Procedure (CrPC). The court on June 5 had directed police to conduct an investigation into Devi’s claims about her husband’s murder.

Reportedly, Gonda Police chief Vineet Jaiswal revealed that during investigations they learnt that Ramkaran, in fact, was alive and the murder case was just a plan concocted by Devi and Ramkaran to take over the family land.

Police traced Ramkaran to Gujarat, where they caught hold of him and brought him back to Gonda. He told the police that he had been working as a labourer in the state.

Ramkaran also told them about his wife’s motive behind leveling the false murder accusation. The police have initiated the legal process and have booked Gudiya Devi under CrPC Section 194/182 for filing a false report and misleading the court, an India Today report said.

During questioning, the couple told the police that there were tensions between Ramkaran and brothers over the family property. “They had hatched this conspiracy to send the others to jail so that the property comes under their control. But the police managed to bust it,” an officer was quoted as saying.

The couple are in police custody and further action is being taken.

Last month a married woman and her lover were arrested filing a fake gangrape-cum-loot case to pay off the man’s debts.

Police cracked the case just days after the lover, a businessman from Bijnor, filed an FIR claiming that five to six men allegedly gang-raped his wife and looted valuables worth Rs 10 lakh after forcefully entering his house. The 32-year businessman, Pushpendra Chaudhary, was arrested by the police.

Bijnor SP Neeraj Kumar Jadaun told ToI that, “The woman came under police radar during questioning. In her statement, she said that six men barged into the house around 7 pm on Tuesday. It was not possible as the area remains crowded in the evening hours. Besides, from the initial stage, we knew the criminal was informed about the absence of all other family members.”

Later, the woman also broke down and confessed to the crime.

Early in November, a 39-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh was arrested in Ahmedabad, for faking his own death to claim Rs 80 lakh in insurance money.

The accused had been living in Ahmedabad under a new identity for the last 17 years after allegedly killing a beggar with the help of his family members to fake his own death and claim insurance money.
